How long is this program?
 
The Apprenticeship Program is based on a two-year model where the apprentice accumulates 4000 on-the-job training hours and 315 hours of instructional training.
   
How many classes do apprentices have to take each year?
 
Apprentices must take ten credits each year but they can decide how many to take per semester.
   
Do mentors have to take college classes?
 
As long as the mentor meets the mentor requirements they do not need to take classes. Mentors can apply for scholarships through T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Nevada.
   
How many stipends do apprentices get?
 
Apprentices can receive four $100.00 stipends during the two year program. Apprentices receive stipends at the end of the semester after their grades have been turned in to the Apprenticeship Office.
   
When do apprentices get their stipends?
  Apprentices qualify for their stipends when they are in good standing and they complete their course work with a C or better grade. They must send in a copy of their transcript at the end of the semester to the apprenticeship office to receive their stipend check.
   
Do mentors receive a stipend?
 
Mentors do receive stipends during the two year program for each apprentice that they are mentoring. Mentors can have up to three apprentices. Mentors receive their $100.00 stipend for each of their apprentices after their apprentice has completed one year of the program. Mentors must also have turned in their mentor assignments and have attended four professional trainings for the year.
   
How many stipends do centers receive?
 
Registered Apprenticeship sites will receive two $500.00 stipends for their participation in the program. In order for a site to receive a stipend they must have active apprentices in good standing for a period of one year. The centers are also responsible for maintaining the records of the apprentice, copies of agreements and the program standards.
   
How do I get credit for my previous experience?
  Apprentices must turn in letters or other proof of employment to verify the previous experience of the apprentice. The Nevada Child Care Apprenticeship Committee will meet and review the information before giving credit for previous experience.
   
How many hours can I get for my previous experience?
 
Apprentices can have 500 to 2000 hours given to them for their previous experience. Previous experience is based on the number of years a teacher has worked in the classroom, education and other professional development experiences.
   
How many trainings do mentors have to attend each year?
 
Mentors must attend four trainings each year. The year is not based on calendar year but when the mentor signed up for the program.
   
When are mentor assignments due?
 
Mentors must turn in an observation and a progress report for each of their apprentices. These assignments are due on June 12 and December 1. Mentors are also responsible for completing one ECERS or ITERS assessment on their apprentice after their apprentice has completed two semesters in the program.
   
Am I still a mentor after my apprentice graduates?
 
Mentors can continue to mentor other apprentices after their apprentices graduate or exit the program. The apprentice needs to be registered at the site. Apprentices need to contact the apprenticeship office if they have changed locations so that new forms can be filled out for them.
   
What are the mentor requirements?
 
Mentors must have taken 15 college credits of Early Childhood Education and have at least two years of experience. Mentors need to attend four trainings each year. In addition, mentors must turn in their assignments for their apprentices. When their apprentices are enrolled in the apprenticeship class, mentors are responsible for some additional assignments.
   
Can mentors and apprentices take a leave of absence?
 
Yes, mentors and apprentices can take a leave of absence if they contact the Apprenticeship Office and explain their situation.
